What a Mobile Detailer Needs From You Before They Arrive

A mobile detail goes faster and turns out better with a few minutes of prep beforehand. What to clear out, what to check, and what most mobile detailers bring themselves.

Mobile detailing means the work comes to you, but a few minutes of preparation on your end makes the visit faster and the result better. None of it is complicated, and most of it takes less time than making a coffee.

Clear out personal items

If the interior is being cleaned, pull out anything personal before the appointment: documents, electronics, loose change, kids' toys, gym bags. It is not about trust, it is about time, since every item that has to be moved during the clean is time not spent actually cleaning. A glovebox and centre console do not need to be emptied unless you want them detailed too, but loose items on seats and floors should come out.

Make sure the vehicle is accessible

A detailer needs to walk all the way around the car and open every door, so park with enough room on all sides and have the keys or fob available for the appointment. If the car is usually locked in a garage, plan to have it out or the garage open during the booked window.

Water and power, usually not your problem

Most mobile detailers carry their own water tank and power on the van or trailer specifically so your driveway works without any setup on your end. If a particular job genuinely needs a hose bib or an outdoor outlet, that will come up when you book, not as a surprise on the day.

Mention anything unusual up front

A stain that has been there for months, a smell with a specific cause, a crack in a headlight lens, or paint damage that goes past the clear coat all change what the job actually needs. Mentioning it when you book, ideally with a photo, means the right time and approach get planned in from the start rather than discovered on site.

Give the appointment the time it needs

A wash is quick, but a full detail or a paint correction takes real time on site. Plan for the vehicle to be free for the whole window rather than needed halfway through, and if anyone else drives the car, make sure they know it will not be available that day.

A little bit of prep turns a mobile appointment into exactly what it is meant to be: the work happening on your schedule, in your driveway, without you having to think about any of the logistics.
